Let’s face it: if it weren’t for The Simpsons, who knows where adult animation would be today? I don’t know if audiences would’ve given shows like Family Guy, South Park, or King of the Hill a chance if they hadn’t been introduced to Homer and his family about a decade earlier. One of the most unique things about The Simpsons is that it feels like a real sitcom but just animated. One of the benefits of making an animated show is that your cast can be enormous. It would be impossible for a regular sitcom to have as many recurring characters as The Simpsons regularly has. Do you think Kelsey Grammar, during the height of Cheers, would’ve actually gotten his posh self into clown makeup? I don’t think so. Imagine if we had to suffer through Bart, Lisa, and Maggie getting older as time passed. Thank god we got the first ten seasons of The Simpsons and not some kind of Full House foolishness.
