You should be careful what you wish for… You might get your wish, but it might not go exactly as you had pictured.
In order to avoid joining the HOA of the development that was being built around them, this couple decided to establish their own, joining with their three original neighbors to form their own organization that would see them protected, with the husband of the couple as head of the HOA of their single street in the development. Things were peaceable for a short time until a meddling new Karen neighbor moved in across the street, bringing with her the gossip and drama that would plague the neighborhood forever after. Luckily, with no involvement in the HOA, she was on a short leash and could do little to battle the issues that she saw within the neighborhood, much to her chagrin.
In order to further protect themselves and the neighborhood, the HOA was established like a weird monarchy, with the sitting President having the ability to appoint a successor rather than having one elected to avoid having the association falling into the wrong hands. So, when the husband passed, he left it to his wife, much to the Karen’s dismay. But once she sold their home and was set to move out of the neighborhood, the aged wife relented and passed the HOA on to the Karen. In power at long last, the Karen sought to begin her reign but didn’t make it overly long as her subjects weren’t quite as willing as she might have hoped.
