OP figured things would go in their favor given the fact that they had been working at this office for three years. Unfortunately, however, OP’s manager had other ideas. He said that if OP could get another offer from somewhere else that would prove they are worth this raise, then the manager would match the offer. Cue malicious compliance! OP followed their manager’s “orders” and ended up at a far better job earning an even greater salary and a much more manageable workload.
