Too often do employees give company’s their 100%, only to get the company’s 1% in return. It really sours your view on job searching. You want to find the job of your dreams and make a fulfilling career out of it, but if they people running it are just using and abusing you, then it might be time to move on to big and better things.
That’s exactly what this software administrator did, as explained in their two-parter Reddit post. Their initial post was from several years ago, when they were first clashing with their sysadmin. They have graciously updated us and now we know they are living their best life.
Apparently, the company had all kinds of issues that OP was trying to fix, but the CEO and the sysadmin weren’t having it. Thus, hackers hacked and the company’s data was in jeopardy. OP spent days and night, sometimes sleeping in the office, to make sure everything was protected and back up in running as fast as possible. He thought he’d get extra brownie points since he had been trying to prevent this from the start—or at least his higher ups would finally understand what he was trying to do.
But nope. They gave him a laugable bonus and, frankly, offensive raise, but gave the sysadmin double his salary in a raise. So, though he loved what he was doing, there was only one way to make this right. He quit. Now, he’s working somewhere that actually appreciates and respects him and pays him accordingly.
