There are many different rights for pregnant workers and it varies all over the place. Some places in the world heavily protect a pregnant employee and makes it impossible to fire them. Other places have loop holes and are less concerned about a pregnant employee. In these types of places, entitled nefarious employers will take advantage of those sneaky loop holes. “Oh, you’re pregnant? Congrats… By the way, you’re fired.”
A nurse recently shared her story how she was young, pregnant, and tricked into quitting. At the time she was working extra hours and it was becoming too much for her while she was getting further and further into her pregnancy. She went to her HR and asked if she could cut back just a few hours while she was pregnant because it was all just too much. That sounded reasonable to HR, like it would to most people, and they told her that would be no problem. They gave her some paperwork to sign and she was on her way. However, the next morning she got a call from her head nurse saying she was so sorry to see her go. She was confused and asked what she was talking about. And the head nurse said she had signed her resignation paperwork. Since she didn’t thoroughly read the documents she signed and trusted HR too much, there was nothing she could do.
Except may exact a little revenge. She found out a dark little secret about the Director of Nursing, that she was actually not official certified for her job position. She spilled the tea to the health board and when she went in to pick up her last check, she found out that the Director of Nursing had been forced to resign. Justice can be so so sweet sometimes.
