In a little over a decade, many of us have become hopelessly dependent on the gig economy. We order our takeout on DoorDash, travel from A to B in Ubers, and get entire grocery shops delivered straight to our door. The catch is that those who provide these services to us are usually underpaid and overworked, as well as struggling in a system that some would argue encourages disrespect. Our convenience comes at a price, and often we don’t even realize it.
When one Amazon driver took to Twitter to complain about an audacious delivery note that he received, it was hard to tell whether the customer was being ignorant, or just plain rude. Demanding that the worker did “something silly” in front of his Ring doorbell when he delivered the package, his justification was that it was for the entertainment of his young son.
It’s fair to say that a lot of people on the internet were not impressed with this request. Would it have been more or less insulting if a tip had been offered as well?
