Barney the Dinosaur: a name that will forever live in infamy. Barney has the rare distinction of being a kid’s character that was hated by parents and kids alike during his time. My younger sister was on the brink of getting into Barney, and my mom had to nip that in the bud because he was just too annoying. Elementary school kids of the 90s and 2000s famously sang songs about violently murdering Barney. I still recall my favorite song in the killing Barney genre.
Joy to the world, that Barney is dead! We barbecued his head!

Kids used to love proving that they were too old and mature to watch Barney, and these songs proved just that. The childhood pastime of hating Barney has since gone extinct, but it’s likely to make a huge comeback! Mattel has announced a relaunch of the Barney franchise, and this time, he’s animated!
