Life’s short. If absolutely everything we did and consumed in this limited time was good for us, we would have a very boring time. Also, sometimes the category of ‘good’ is subjective. If all we ate every day was plain chicken, rice, and vegetables, we might be getting the right nutrition but we’d be missing out on the rich tapestry of joy that food brings.
The same goes for how we feed our minds. We could become the kind of person who reads all the broadsheet newspapers every day, but that would get depressing quickly. Memes, on the other hand, make up for the lack of brainpower they require by providing us with the entertainment we need to get through everything with a smile. Well, maybe I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s nice to think that they have that much persuasive power. The only way to find out is to keep on scrolling.
