Something essential to a good workout is a good workout playlist. The right song can take you from feeling like a soulless cog in a machine to feeling like the star of your very own action franchise. Classically good workout songs usually have an elevated tempo and lyrics that make you feel like a badass, like rap, metal, or upbeat pop.
But I’m also a proponent of the sad workout song. Tapping into your emotions can help you dig deeper to find that extra strength to hit your PR. Imagine getting a sick pump to a Leonard Cohen song. There’s something about that that makes sense. But to each their own. What’s motivating to someone might make someone else curl into a ball and cry. What’s your go-to workout music?
