My relationship with working out has evolved a lot over the years. As a scrawny, bookish kid whose hobbies were decidedly sedentary, gym class was probably by least favorite part of school (alongside math). When I got older and started to internalize the messages of Society™ that said my worth was based on what my body looked like, I started to begrudgingly explore ways of moving that didn’t involve lounging in increasingly creative positions on the couch.
Nowadays I’m not exactly a full-blown exercise obsessive, but fitting a long walk and modest training session into my schedule can often be the highlight of my day. Sorry, child me, a lot of exercise feels good and is good for you. It’s not like I need to convince anyone who’s looking at this list, though.
